PROVIDENCE- During the week of May 2nd the Providence Fire Department will be transitioning to larger five inch diameter fire hoses that would greatly improve the department's capability to supply water at fires. The new hoses will replace the three inch hoses currently used by the department.
The total project cost of $168,000 was funded by a Fire Act Grant in the amount of $134,000 and $34,000 from the departments' annual budget for worn out hose repairs. The acquisition of the hoses enhances the department's capability to interoperate with surrounding departments and increase water supply when fighting fires.
"These enhancements to our City's fire fighting equipment will help our firefighters better protect Providence's residents and their property in the event of a fire. I commend department leadership for securing this grant and for taking the initiative to further enhance the Department's equipment," said Mayor Taveras.
